Our Mission: East Cooper Meals on Wheels delivers daily nutrition to residents within our service area who are homebound or unable to provide their own meals. We also advocate on behalf of recipients whose needs exceed the scope of our program.
Our Vision: Our homebound neighbors live a well nourished life with independence and dignity.
We serve nutritious meals to all homebound residents east of the Cooper, regardless of age or income. We operate without a waiting list and there is never a charge for meals.
In 2015, we introduced the Feeding Friends program, opening up service of meals to people in outpatient care while recovering from transplant or surgery. Partnering with local hospitals and medical professionals, East Cooper Meals on Wheels aims to help alleviate some of the burden that falls on patients and their care givers during the recovery process. Doctors and nurses have been very supportive of the Feeding Friends program, well aware that nutrition is a vital component to recovery and helping their patients avoid hospital readmission.
OUR HISTORY: CELEBRATING OVER 31 YEARS OF SERVING OUR COMMUNITY
In 1985, East Cooper Meals on Wheels was incorporated by a small group of volunteers from St. Andrew’s Church who were serving daily meals to eight individuals. By the end of that first year, 4,914 meals had been delivered to 19 regular recipients. Through the generous support of the East Cooper community, our reach has expanded exponentially, and followed up to deliver over 148,000 meals in 2017.
East Cooper Meals on Wheel is a community based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has been recognized nationally for our innovation, integrity and entrepreneurship when it comes to addressing the nutritional needs of our homebound neighbors.
